GameFly, Inc. to launch Windows/Mac digital distribution game store this holiday season

GameFly just made a first step towards the future without physical media with a pre-announcement of the forthcoming digital game distribution platform. Advertisement, no real details, including the name of the service, but he said to start this coming holiday.

This service allows subscribers to GameFly buy Windows/Mac games instead of just rent as is usually done via GameFly. This brings a whole new level in service GameFly currently Netflix video games. Upcoming computer client is more than just shop as well. News, trailers and video clips will attempt to make a programme in a crowded niche market, currently dominated by Valve's steam digital distribution platform.

Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder and Senior Vice President of business development and content, "we are happy to inform the consumer of digital gaming in a meaningful way, as no other service or retail brings physical and digital games together as GameFly.

Closed beta will start 8 September 2011 event Los Angeles, California. All participants will receive a beta code for themselves and each other. The beta codes can also be found on the services page, because, you know, not everyone can make it to LA.

This service joins Steam and EA's recently launched origin platform. Before you start sending just a few months ago, a couple of pretty sitting atop mountains of digital distribution. Now with the origin and GameFly service, steam is better to begin construction of fortification its position; come the clones.


GameFly rents and provides video games to customers by mail, modeled on Netflix. For a flat monthly fee you can rent as many games as they want.
