Although I didn't hear any popular outcry about Nintendo 3DS price drop – calm, that is, in some ways, the most interesting part of the whole thing – Nintendo decided that the time to explain the early adopters. Satoru Iwata, Director General, said that, in fact, this step was unprecedented, but Nintendo has some very good reasons for cutting 3DS price:

These unprecedented time for lower prices due to the fact that the situation has changed considerably since we launched the 3DS. We decided that it was necessary to make this drastic step, so as to ensure that a large number of users will continue to use the 3DS in the future.

If the creators of the software and those who are on the side of the retail trade are not sure that Nintendo 3 DS is a worthy successor to DS and will achieve the same broad (user) base, it will be impossible to gain popularity, 3 DS buy a wide range of software and ultimately create a cycle of the product necessary for everyone to be satisfied with the system.

You can read the whole note below, but Nintendo clearly believes that the absence of 3DS content is a problem for developers. While this may be so, I think, can also be a little console fatigue, especially since the beginning of the upcoming Wii U and to a lesser extent release Vito Playstation.

Despite this, we now go back to your regular session of the General Director of groveling:

For those customers who bought the Nintendo 3DS to price changes

Hi, everyone. This is Satoru Iwata from Nintendo.

Thank you very much for the purchase of Nintendo 3DS.

We just announced a price drop for the Nintendo 3DS, entered into force on 11 August [12 August in North America].

In the past there had been price drops for gaming systems for some time after their release in order to further expand the user base. But never before has Nintendo decided to make such dramatic price drop to less than 6 months after the release of the system.

We all know only too well that those of you who supported us by purchasing the 3DS early may feel betrayed and criticize this decision.
